West Side

Pretty slow day after all the fun last night.  It is now time to take it easy and restore the energy.  I took a quick drive around the island and the Maple Tress are beautifully yellow.  Driving along roads covered in yellow with green fir trees lining the roadside.  It is a really nice site.  I did not get any pictures though.  I did take one image shooting towards the Olympic Mountains.  You will see dark clouds and that is about it.

Last night I walked to town to get some dinner and took my camera with me.  Why you might ask. I do not really know.  But it was fun to have along.  I took a few night pics as I walked to town and after dinner.  So I just wanted to post them because I think they are fun.   To update my tire situation, well it looks like I have to buy 4 tires instead of just two.  Since my car is all wheel drive, you have to replace them all at the same time. My tires were damaged due to mischievous behavior.  Someone decided to poke small holes in the sidewalls. So tomorrow I get to go off island and buy new tires.  I wanted that last sentence to sound fun, since that is as far from what it will be. Hope everyone is doing well and I hope to get some island photos up soon.  I know I will be on the water soon and I have a new pod that attaches to my kayak that I can mount my camera to. Kayaking San Juan Island in Jeopardy??

I know that many may have forgotten all the mess last fall when NOAA announced the possible closure of the majority of San Juan Islands west side. The west side of San Juan Island is one of the best places to kayak in all the San Juan Islands. The following link is full of information from last fall that I posted here on my blog. Winter Returns to San Juan Island

Last night the temperatures started to fall off and a bit of freezing drizzle had started.  By this morning there was a light blanket of snow covering the ground.  It was in the upper 20s when I woke and had plan on going for a run today.  So I sat around thinking about it and then decided it would be a great to be out in the snow for a run. I got Guinness roused from his sleep and headed to the Finlayson Trail.  The drive out was as I expected, Beautiful!  I geared up in some warm running clothes and was ready to hit the trail.  At the trail head is was so nice.  The snow tends to make everything seem quiet.  It was cold but perfect for a run.  As I headed into the woods the trail was pretty clear.  The tree canopy had kept most of the snow at bay.  Ferns along side the trail had a faint covering of snow.  It was really nice.
