False Bay Sunset

Image
I did not get a chance to get out on the trail today.  I stuck around the house and took care of some home duties.  But I did get a chance to get out to False Bay as the sun set.  I took a quick few pics before I needed to get back to town.  I wanted to get Guinness out for a walk to town.  Well here are the images I took.  I hope to get on the water soon.  I still have not heard a word from Pentax on my camera.  I hope the warranty work comes through. There is a nice farm that is across from False Bay.  It is really a nice landscape view. False Bay.  The sun has fallen behind the clouds in the distance. I wish I would have had more time to get out to the trails and get some more images.  But I hope to get out for a run tomorrow.  So I will get some more images.

Friday Harbor Christmas Lighting

Image
Today Friday Harbor lit the trees in the circle on Spring St.  Discovery Sea Kayaks shop is located next to the circle, so we decided to give out free cider and candy canes to all the kids.  It was great time and there were plenty of kids running around.  Here are a few photos. Here is a picture of the shop.  I outlined the kayak with lights. People gathering to watch the lights.

What a sunset!

If you come by my blog very often you can see that I really like where I live.  Today was just another day that reconfirms that statement.  Most of the day I was couped up in the office working on updating the Discovery Sea Kayak web page.  It is just tedious and boring work.  Mainly going over old images and looking to replace them with new ones.  Updating prices and getting dates for tours put together.  Yeap, like I said. BORING. I had to take care of a few bills. So I left a bit early and when I was done with that I decided I needed to go for a run.  So I loaded Guinness (my dog) in my Previa and headed to the south end of the island.  It is a fun run.  You entern the woods at the parking lot and have a nice stroll through dense overhead canopy.  Then you arrive at this not so nice hill.  As you crest the top your heart is pounding from the exertion.  But as you start to emerge from the woods the expansive view is more than worth it.  It is so heart warming to reach the top and be ...

San Juan Island Winter Kayaking

Image
The weather has been so nice and mild for this time of year.  It makes it hard not to get out on the water.  Plus Jesse and I got our new dry suits in the other day and I was really wanting to get some salt on them.  They are great, custom all black with reflective lettering that says DISCOVERY on the arm.  It is the new Discovery Sea Kayak uniform.   Kokatat did a wonderful job on the suits. Really the highest quality dry suit for kayaking you can get.  I am still waiting for my new PFD, so I will get a review up on it after I wear it awhile. But the paddle today was great.  We left San Juan County Park and headed south.  We decided to do a one way trip and get a pick up at the end.  We got to Eagle Cove and beached the kayaks and hiked to American Camp Visitor Center.  There we used the phone to call Richard and he came and picked us up.   The water was still and quite today.  Visibility was good across the water, ...

Trumpeter Swan

Image
Today started with the usual coffee and meeting with Richard.  Working on new and fresh ideas to bring to the company.  Not much was reached today.  Though last night I was inspired by a friend of mine to be more aggressive in setting up waste disposal program for our multi day kayak tours. Our Explorer Tours we provide all food and this produces a good amount of waste.  Waste including compost, recycling and standard trash.  The idea is to build an easily accessible compost area so that it used more vigilantly.  Then create a separation between the recycle bins and trash bins.  So I met with Jesse to start clearing the area we will be implementing the program.  It is nice to have conversation that leads to actions. The next portion of my day I went out to Wolf Hollow to help a friend of mine.  She needed help feeding a juvenile Trumpeter Swan.  This is a pretty large bird.  Even though it is not an adult, it is big.  So we basically just needed to get it into a corner and get a sheet ...

Kayaking In The Fog

Image
Early morning today as I got up to meet my parents before they caught the ferry.  It was really nice to have them here. I came home and packed some gear then a friend and I headed to the West Side of San Juan Island to San Juan County Park to get on the water.  Kayaking in the fog is so much fun.  The views of the island are beautiful blanketed in heavy sheets of fog.  Heading out off shore it hard to tell where water starts and the air begins.  Everything is so gray.  There were lots of seals out playing around and a variety of sea birds.  One of my spotlights today was the sight of Ancient Murrelets .  There was a group of four and they kept popping up right next to the kayaks.  I was lucky and they came up several times before I moved on.  I wish I would have tried to take a photo as I do not see them very much.  All in all it was a great day to be on the water.  The conditions were perfect, no wind and small tides.  Here a the few images I took. Oh The Fog

Today has been very humid with mist falling most of the day.  The temperature got to about 50F and I thought it was pretty pleasant outside.  We had a small tour go to the West Side today. Everyone checked in at the Discovery Sea Kayak shop at 11am.  I spent the day with my parents as they are set to leave early tomorrow.  It has been great having them on the island.  It is nice to spend time with them and go out to dinner.  I hope that they have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed having them here.  Today was the last day of the Holiday Market.  The Market is for island artist and those who make all sort of things.  I stopped in and picked up some great products from Sweet Earth Farm .  We are going to meet my parents for dinner then head out to Sweet Earth Farm where they are hosting a Barn Dance.  YEEHAA!!  I do not plan on being there long as I feel pretty tired after my run today. Well I do not have any new images to ...
